When politicians slam the door |
Why can’t politicians speak as it is? Why the overblown rhetoric? Why the excruciating hyperbole? Why the historic challenges? Why the astonishing revelations? Why another momentous week in politics? Why the devastating impact? It’s all so amazing, incredible, earth shattering. Another event of biblical proportions or is it? And of our leaders, Cameron, Milliband and Clegg, one does hyperbole particularly well.
Politicians so often remind me of the little boy, who standing next to a large door, slams it shut to great effect. As the crash and the pressure wave silence the room so everyone turns to see our little boy taking centre stage. But he’s just a small boy with a big door not unlike small politicians, with big things to say.
When God speaks He doesn’t need a crash to accompany His voice. He really is big and every door is small. In fact, says Job, when you see the stars, when you witness the violence of the ocean, when the storm thunders overhead, God is speaking. But these things are the mere edges of His ways. His voice is but the faintest whisper. Who then can understand the thunder of His power?
